What's an Avenger?

So I went to see The Avengers movie... After seeing the previews for The Avengers I had little interest in seeing it in theatres, at best I chalked it up as a rental possibility when the pickings were slim. I was persuaded by my boyfriend to see it in theatres, who promised me popcorn and D-Box seats.

For those of you who don't know, the movie is two and a half hours long. For this reason, we chose to upgrade our seats at Scotiabank Theatre Chinook, to the D-Box, where the seat wiggles and jolts around during the film to make you feel as though you are actually "in the movie". They were okay at best.

I had heard from many friends that The Avengers was absolutely amazing, so although it wasn't necessarily something I was interested in seeing, I expected to be pleasantly surprised. This may be embarrassing to admit, but I spent the majority of the movie wondering exactly what was happening.

A little comic book knowledge would have gone a long way. I have never grown up with brothers, I do not know who Ironman or Captain America are, I certainly was unaware that these characters have all had their own movies made after them. While watching the first hour or so I was completely lost, expecting for all the puzzle pieces to eventually come together into one big "a-ha" moment... which never came.

I lied, the moment did come in the car driving home from the movie, where my boyfriend explained to me exactly who the characters were and why they were significant.

With that being said, I'm sure if I'd had any idea what I was getting myself into, I would have enjoyed the movie a bit more. The main purpose of this blog is to issue a warning to other comic book noobs like me, if you know absolutely nothing about Marvel comics, dodge this movie, or do your research in advance.

Overall, I would rate The Avengers a 3 mysterious super heroes out of 5 - it wasn't the worst movie in the world, but I would not see it again.

I would rate the D-Box seats a 2.5 wiggles out of 5 - they made the movie slightly more interesting and interactive, but for the price ($25 a seat) I wouldn't recommend the upgrade.
