Game of Thrones

The HBO series Game of Thrones aired its second season finale last night with a 38% increase in viewers from last seasons finale. Frankly I am not surprised! This television show is based on the bestselling series by George R.R. Martin, and if you've read the books then it's impossible not to know that the show is amazing too (here's a preview on YouTube).

Last summer I read the five current novels in the A Song of Ice and Fire series (Martin is still writing the series), and became so addicted to the story that I read them all in a month. That's a lot of reading. I completely immersed myself in the fantasy series, and since then I have suggested it to every friend I have. And now I am suggesting it to you!

The television series is really excellent, but the books are far superior. Even if you already watch the show I would suggest reading the books as well, since the story does not always stay true to the books.

The story follows many different characters in a fantasy world that is not unlike medieval Europe, except with curious seasons that last for years on end. Martin provides deep character development, which I am partial to in novels, as well as a complex and intriguing storyline. There isn't a dull moment, and it is an exciting read right from the first page. Anyone who enjoys fantasy novels, or even just a great read will love this story!

Has anyone else read this series? Or do you watch the HBO show?

  1. I couldn't agree more, I watched the first season liked it and so bought the first book. I was wowed and then quickly read the rest, I just hope nothing happens to Martin before he finishes. I find that movies and shows never due justice to books, but in this case even more so. The books are just far to deep and long to wrap up in a show, they are huge, by far the longest books I have ever read.
