I'm a Barbie Girl, In the REAL World

I remember being a little girl and thinking that Barbie dolls were really pretty and popular. I don't mean popular as in every girl on the block has one, but that everything the doll was embodied popularity. Everything from her blonde hair to her hour glass figure, it made her popular.

As I grew up, I started to realize that the Barbie dolls' figure and perfection was not a real standard to hold girls to at all. This is why I was so startled to read about the 2 real life Barbie dolls, Dakota Rose and Valeria Lukyanova.

Dakota Rose I believe is around 16-18, and I suppose she has the body of that age, but her features are startlingly similar to that of a Barbie doll. She has big blue doe eyes and a perfect cupid's bow lips. She is also quite fair and has a nicely structured face to fit the perfection of a Barbie doll. Her situation is a matter of make up and clothing, so it isn't that big of an issue.

The bigger issue is Valeria Lukyanova, she is a 21 year old who literally has the hour glass figure. She didn't achieve this look by nature, she was surgically altered to look like the Barbie doll that she is now. I don't know if I am really turned off by her appearance, or if I think that she is slightly pretty. Like, the sheer perfection that she is now is really eery and unsettling.

If you have looked at images of her or read up on her, then you would know that she had a breast enhancement job done and now sits at a 38 DD, and she has had a few ribs removed to get an 18" waist (you can't really achieve the Barbie shape with so many ribs! Duhh!!). I've looked at pictures of her, and she looks so plastic, even worse than when The Hills star, Heidi Montag got I think 10 surgeries in a day.

Woman aren't meant to look like plastic Barbie dolls, it's not normal. Using make up and clothing to change your appearance is one thing, but when it comes to surgically altering ones self, it kind of gets ridiculous there.

The media has placed such an importance on being beautiful physically, that young impressionable girls forget what is real and what is not. This has been a really popular subject recently, and it just makes me wonder how things would be had pop culture not placed such a high importance on being a tall, white, thin blonde.

Food for thought... Or... I guess... Lack of food... Barbies don't eat.

  1. Oh my god, after just skimming through your post, the first thing I saw was Dakota Rose, and instantly I thought of Valeria Lukyanova. I had recently saw pictures of her on facebook, articles on her saying that the only reason she did all of this was to become popular and famous. Like come on that is probably the dumbest thing to do, having a rib removed? I saw her before and after pictures, and to be honest she looked so much better before her surgeries than she does now. She just looks like shes dying from starvation cause her stomach is so tiny, its abnormal, and I've never seen such a thing like that in my life. This is beyond crazy if you ask me.

  2. Yea, the Barbie look in theory is great... but in reality its not very attractive. A natural hour glass figure is good. Not one where you have to surgically remove a few ribs.

She honestly does look like plastic... I hate to say this but... Heidi Montag looks better in comparison

  3. The first thought that comes to mind is what is she going to look like at 30, 40, 50. Did she think about if or when she had kids what would happen. The scariest part I think is her face, the body you can tell she had some umm enhancements put in. But her face just doesn’t look.... right, it looks like plastic but not in a oh she got Botox and a nose job type of thing. Its just crazyness and then some.

  4. Dakota Rose is now in my nightmares... If it was late and there were 2 dark alleys: one full of hell's angels and the other...simply Dakota Rose standing there...im trying my luck with the hell's angels

  5. Melissa: Yea, that was one of my thoughts too. She looks "great" now, but in the future she is most likely going to regret it.

Peeta: I'm with you on that... by mine is more so Valeria Lukyanova :)
