Dad's Day was this past Sunday and I did what my Dad wants to do every year...watch golf! Every year I spend most of the day with him and watch
the
U.S. Open Championship of Golf. Now, golf isn't my favorite sport to watch but I do see
the beauty in it. I can't believe how many people watch it! Although I don't necessarily enjoy watching the golf, even though after a hour or two I do find myself enjoying it, there are several things I do like; the fans, seeing the crazy shots and the commercials.
Most of all, I like watching golf with my Dad for the commercials. Just like people who watch the Super Bowl
for the commercials, I like watching the U.S. Open for them. Unlike
Super Bowl commercials, golf commercials definitely come across with a certain
target market in mind. This blatant target market makes me laugh for many reasons. From cars that play golf to ED commercials they are definitely targeted at an older audience and because of that have some very funny commercials.
This
year the commercial I liked the best was with a car that had a golf ball on the
dashboard. The driver swerves all over the road trying to get the ball in the cup
holder. Now, I think the point of the commercial was that the car has very good
handling but it comes across as "the car you can swerve into on-coming traffic
in".
Even though golf tends to be rather dull, for me, the commercials are not the only thing that makes watching worth while. The other reason I enjoy watching golf are for the crazy shots. Some of the shots are just insane and some just do not make sense. This year, one of the golfers drove the ball into a tree and it vanished forever. Now you would think with about a hundred fans and ten video cameras on the ball it would be pretty hard to lose it, but it happened and it was pretty crazy.
Overall I had a good time and I'm sure well do it again next year.
