Movie Review: Snow White & the Huntsman

**Possible SPOILER Alert!! I won't ruin anything for anybody by giving a play by play review on the movie, I want people to watch it and form their own unskewed opinions.**

"Lips red as blood. Hair black as night. Bring me your heart my dear, dear Snow White."- Snow White & the Huntsman (2012)

Step aside Prince, for this fairy tale princess is her own hero.

For anyone who has ever loved a fairy tale then this is the movie for you. Snow White & the Huntsman takes this beloved classic fairy tale and adds an epic twist to it. For once the princess is not the damsel in distress. She is her own savior and her own happy ending. The Prince doesn’t win her heart, and the Huntsman doesn’t just spare her life and leave her be. In this movie, the Huntsman is Snow White's mentor and protector in her quest to take back her kingdom.

Ever since I was a wee lad-ette, I have always been a huge fan of fairy tales. I loved the idea of having someone save you and then living happily ever after. However, now being an adult I realize that life isn't like that. We don't get things handed to us, we have to work for our own happiness. In Snow White & the Huntsman, the beloved princess does just that. I loved this rendition of Snow White, it shows a strong heroine who has to over come her fears and fight for what is rightfully hers.

I just finished watching it, so I can't tell if it is because I am still in that post awesome movie world, or if this is my legit feelings towards this movie. That being said, I do not have a single negative thing to say about this movie, perhaps a few smart ass remarks but nothing that I hated. Throughout the whole movie I was sitting there thinking, 'wow, this is really good!! I wonder when It is going to start dragging and suck?' That never happened because the pace of the whole movie went great.

I think Charlize Theron did a phenomenal job of playing the Evil Queen, Ravenna. She portrayed just the perfect amount of evil. So, onto the Huntsman, Eric... Oh goodie the Huntsman. Chris Hemsworth did an incredible job playing the Huntsman, the protector of the princess. I can't tell if I love his acting or if I love his abs... I think it is a little bit of both. As for Snow White, I normally would feel indifferent towards Kristen Stewart who plays Snow White, but she really did an amazing job in this movie. She looked quite stunning for being locked away for years, and her acting was great. I loved how they developed and drastically changed the personality of the classic Snow White yet, still kept who she is as a whole the same. She was still the fairest of them all, and she still made nature bow down to her. At the same time she wasn't a happy go lucky oblivious, music singing, bird loving damsel in distress. This Snow White didn't need saving, she needed guidance.

The one thing that I did laugh at during the movie was the scene when Snow and her army decides to infiltrate the queens castle. First of all... she has been locked away in a tower for the last 10 or so years of her life, so she has no training what so ever, except for that tiny bit that the Huntsman taught her in the beginning... which I guess was all she needed to defeat the queen... But still... For the scenes prior to her entrance into the queens castle with her army, there was one thing I kept thinking of, Joan of Arc. Snow White in my eyes seemed to posses all the qualities to be Joan of Arc during her attack.

I definitely really enjoyed the amount of romance that was in this movie. It wasn't packed and over loaded with love that made people want to barf. The most emotional part of the movie was when both the Prince and the Huntsman were saying their goodbyes to Snow White when she "died." On the note of Snow White's suitors, I really like how it wasn't in your face ' I love you and want to be with you for the rest of forever and ever.' In regards to the ending, we don't really get that Disney marriage and happily ever after non sense. We get the two of them (not going to say who's kiss saves her... for those of you who can't already figure it out) just staring at each other with an unspoken understanding after she is crowned queen. I honestly thoroughly enjoyed how it wasn't the Disney happily ever after where she ended up with the Prince and they are about to ride off into the sunset.

One thing, that really lived up to my expectation was the enchanted forest. It was beautiful, not Avatar beautiful but definitely how I envisioned the enchanted forest in my mind as a kid. Speaking of enchanted forest, the seven dwarfs!! OMG these are so not your classic happy dwarfs. These are fierce, bad ass dwarfs with a kick... and a few punches... and clubs. This version of the dwarfs are fighters and they provide the movie with quite a bit of humor.

Oh and one last thing, I eagerly waited for this one quote, and upon hearing it I felt like the whole movie was complete. I don't know what it was about this quote, but it feels like it definitely belonged and tied things together... in my opinion of course. That is why I am going to share it with everyone. "You have eyes huntsman, but you can not see"- Snow White & the Huntsman (2012). See?! Nothing special about it, it just tied the movie together in my eyes.

I give this movie 9/ 10 hot Aussies (p.s Chris Hemsworth is Australian)
