My Review: Snow White and the Huntsman (Kristen and Chris)

Being a huge fan of the story of Snow White I had to go see the movie this past weekend. I really enjoyed the different interpretation of Snow White and how they took a different angle in making the film. The acting of course is a huge part of the movie and this is where I felt some things got missed.

I LOVE Charlize Theron and I wasn’t surprised that she would play a great evil stepmother. She did play the role well but wound up shouting in every scene, which was a little extreme. The character she played, Ravella, had a tough childhood and you could see that in the eyes of Theron. She was nonetheless beautiful in every scene even when she began to age at a rapid pace. Obviously Theron would not win an Oscar for this role but she did what she could with the role she had been given.

Kristin Stewart on the other hand was emotionless throughout the movie. Whether she was running after fairies or trying to escape the evil queen her face remained in the same boring facial expression that can be seen in all the Twilight movies. Heck if Chris Hemsworth was in love with me I would definitely be able to work up a smile. As one of my favorite story tale characters, Snow White, she for sure would not have been the hero I would look up to as a child. She definitely did not sing to the animals in the woods either but I guess I am thankful for that. It was hard to believe that Kristen Stewart could go from a locked up teen to a strong hero, even though she just came out of a coma. In short Kristen Stewart fell flat on her face in this role. I would have preferred any other young Hollywood actress to play Snow White.

I really enjoy Chris Hemsworth acting and of course he was nice to look at in this film. As the huntsman he was badass but had the sweet sensitive side to him. He also played up the role of being a drunk, heartbroken man in every scene, which was great. He tends to usually play the rugged manly character and that is fine by me. He almost brought a flicker of light to the film when he looked at Kristen Stewart but her feelings did not get returned. Maybe they should have cast Robert Pattinson for the role.

This movie was a dark take on the original Disney film and it is not advised for younger audiences. The scenes were shot well and I loved that it would go from dark and dreary to a beautiful fairy like world. It was a different story in that although Snow was woken by true loves kiss it was not the center purpose of the film. The creepiest part in the movie for me was when the queen’s evil brother turned out to be a pedophile and tried to hook up with Snow White… Weird. All and all I enjoyed this movie but if the casting had been better (no Kristen Stewart) the movie would have been way more of an enjoyment to watch.

  1. Ooh I cannot wait to see this movie! I totally agree if I got to be Chris Hemsworth's love interest I would be SO IN LOVE!!

I was afraid that Kristen Stewart would dampen the movie... It makes me wonder if I should just wait for it to go into the cheap seats rather than waste $13.
