Guilty Pleasure: The Bachelorette

One of my biggest guilty pleasures of all time is reality TV shows. My absolute favorite of these are the Bachelor and Bachelorette series. I have even started a betting pool at the beginning of these shows to see who is closest to guessing the Top 10, Top 5 and finally the “winner”. By “winner” I mean the person that winds up either purposing to the Bachelorette or getting proposed to in the end by the Bachelor.
This season I have taken quite an interest in because the Bachelorette is Emily Maynard who was on the Bachelor a couple seasons ago and was actually proposed to by the Bachelor Brad. Things didn’t work out and now she is back trying to find true love. The most interesting thing about it is that she is a single mother to her daughter, Ricki. Emily’s first fiancee’ (Ricki’s Dad) died in a plane crash before Ricki was even born. Crazy right?!
So Emily is on this search to find love and the love story begins in her home down of Charlotte, NC.
This process starts with 24 guys who show up and introduce themselves to Emily.
Here is a list of the guys that she started off with…
1.     Kalon
2.     Ryan
3.     Tony
4.     Lerone
5.     David
6.     Charlie
7.     Jef
8.     Arie
9.     Stevie
10. John
11. Travis
12. Michael
13. Alejandro
14. Doug
15. Sean
16. Joe
17. Aaron
18. Kyle
19. Alesandro
20. Brent
21. Jackson
22. Jean Paul
23. Nate
24. Randy

At the end of the first night she had to send home a hand full of guys and she made up her mind solely on first  impressions. The season continues with one on one dates with Emily and group dates. Group dates would by far be the most awkward experience ever. Being on a date with up to 8 guys all trying to get time with you would be flattering but a little bit much and probably fairly annoying. At the end of every one on one date she has the chance to give the guy a rose so that he is safe. If she doesn’t he is forced to leave the show and misses out on the chance to marry Emily. At the end of every episode she is forced to pick a certain number of guys by asking them individually, “…. Will you accept this rose?” Whoever is left without a rose in the end leaves the beautiful location they are at, some with tears in their eyes, loosing out on the chance of “true love”. This is season much like every season before I have picked my top 5.

1.     Jef, Entrepreneur (Age: 27)
I picked Jef because he is super cute and looks like a lot of fun. I think Emily will keep him around because he is very sweet and a little bit childish.

2.     Chris, Sales Director (Age: 25)
Chris is hot and I can’t help but fall in love with him every time he opens his mouth. He is younger then Emily, which does scare her a little bit but he seems to be genuine.

3.     Arie, Race car Driver (Age: 30)
He is a race car driver like Emily’s first fiancée and he captures Emily’s heart as soon as she meets him. He is a bit of a dork and I think she likes that. Also they have kissed numerous times in the show.

4.     Sean, Insurance Agent (Age:28)
Sean is the best looking guy on the show and his smile is stunning. He is also comes from a great family (according to him) and has a religious background which is what Emily is looking for.

Every Monday I spend two hours by myself watching "The Bachelorette" and I get quite upset when I am interrupted.  This show is for sure an extreme guilty pleasure and although I treat it like a game I do feel bad that in the end when they think they have found true love it blows up in their face a couple months later. I am a sucker for true love and in theory it’s a great idea but in reality it just doesn’t make sense to meet the love of your life in a group of 24 men while having dates all over the world. Next they are in London, England.

  1. I've never really watched the Bachelorette or the Bachelor, but I have seen a few episodes here and there. I also found myself really drawn to Emily, I think it was her back story that made me want to see what happens. Last monday I watched 30 mins of the Bachelorette and I saw the part where she told Kaylon to GTFO.

That for SURE got me interested, then I went on YouTube and wanted to see what happened to her fiance... It was super depressing.

I can totally understand what you mean about finding true love and all that... but this show is totally under the guilty pleasure genre for sure and I highly doubt the marriage rate is really that high.
