Dirty "Dubstep" Dancing

It's been rather apparent that Dubstep has had an affect on pop culture over the past two years. From Skrillex to Deadmou5, dubstep and electro have been added to pop artists music. Lately, it seems that every song on the radio has either a dubstep breakdown halfway through it or a dubstep style theme to the song. This change in music trend has made me wonder how it will and has affected other art forms that are reliant on music such as dancing.  From what I have seen of the dancing, I must say its pretty crazy and if you want to see a sweet example check this out.

This year on So You Think You Can Dance it seemed like every second dancer had infused there dance moves with a dubstep inspired section of music. With dubstep added to the music there were dance moves that came with it which came across as break dancing mixed with the robot. This addition of break and robot dance moves to the other genres of dancing has inspired some very interesting collaborations of dance and music. Just like dubstep remixes of songs it appears that dancing is experiencing some of the same changes.

Personally, I like dubstep because it is close to punk with breakdowns and heavier tones but it is just crazy when you watch dancers add it to their dance moves. If you watch the video you can see that it takes a lot of skill to add this style of dance moves with the music. The craziest part is that most of these dancers would likely not have added this style of dance to there routines if it wasn't for the current trend of dubstep.

This change makes me wonder what will happen next with both dance and music. What will become the next style in pop culture and how will it effect both art forms?  What do you guys think? Leave a comment and if you find any dubstep videos post a link.

We LOVE Fictional Characters

Fictional Characters have become sort of an obsession within North American society. Movies, TV shows, even the news circles around them. Sometimes people even believe that they may be real and that it could happen! Here are the most common fictional characters in today's society

1. Vampires
They are everywhere with their superhuman speed and strength and are always cold. Some Vampires can actual come out during the day and face the sun without burning into ash. They live FOREVER which is super cool but also an extreme curse. The kickers, they are dead and they have to suck the blood from living things. Good thing it no longer has to be humans, there are blood banks as well as little animals running around that they can kill instead. Makes me feel better about walking around at night. Vampires have always been around in society they have blown up in the last couple years and found their way to almost every TV show and movie that is released. There are even Vampire Conventions. There is a list by Rotten Tomatoes that rates the Best Vampire Movies of all time.
The following are just some TV and movies that include Vampires:
True Blood
Buffy the Vampire Diaries
Underworld

Twilight
2. Werewolves
Now where would the Vampires be without there nemesis the Werewolf. Usually in every Vampire movie there is also Werewolves. These creatures are extremely warmblooded and usually are quite large. They do not live forever but they at least only have to werewolves on a full moon. Their bite to a Vampire in most movies is lethal and will kill the Vampire. They usually travel in packs and they are werewolves either through blood or because they got bitten by one. Each movie or show is different. List of the Best Horror Werewolf Movies . Personally I like nice werewolves. ie. Michael J. Fox in Teen Wolf.

Ginger Snaps 2
Lycan (Werewolf) in Underworld
New Teen Wolf
Original Teen Wolf

Zombies have always been around because what is cooler then dead people walking. These characters are always bad and are really just trying to eat human people. They are slow walking and are rotting and I am going to assume they smell extremely bad. I am not every sure how zombies actually come alive. Sometimes its because of a miracle drug that is going to save the world but instead it turns people into zombies. Or there is some sort of curse that brings them dead back to life. Either way these slow moving dead people are extremely scary and if they catch you, more often then not your going to become a walking dead person as well. Zombies have even graced the news lately and one person was described as a zombie. Some people actually believe that there is going to a zombie apocalypse. If that happens I think I have watched enough shows to know exactly what to do. Live on a boat because I am pretty sure Zombies can't swim. These are some of the Top 10 Zombie Movies.  These are my favourite zombie movies and TV shows.

These fictional characters allow us to escape our own world and believe in something completely different. All I can say is I think I would want to be a Vampire who did not live forever if there was a zombie apocalypse I just hope that the animals did not become zombies as well or I would for sure die of starvation.

Dads Day Golf-a-thon

Dad's Day was this past Sunday and I did what my Dad wants to do every year...watch golf!  Every year I spend most of the day with him and watch the U.S. Open Championship of Golf. Now, golf isn't my favorite sport to watch but I do see the beauty in it.  I can't believe how many people watch it!  Although I don't necessarily enjoy watching the golf, even though after a hour or two I do find myself enjoying it, there are several things I do like; the fans, seeing the crazy shots and the commercials.

Most of all, I like watching golf with my Dad for the commercials. Just like people who watch the Super Bowl for the commercials, I like watching the U.S. Open for them.  Unlike Super Bowl commercials, golf commercials definitely come across with a certain target market in mind. This blatant target market makes me laugh for many reasons. From cars that play golf to ED commercials they are definitely targeted at an older audience and because of that have some very funny commercials.

This year the commercial I liked the best was with a car that had a golf ball on the dashboard. The driver swerves all over the road trying to get the ball in the cup holder. Now, I think the point of the commercial was that the car has very good handling but it comes across as "the car you can swerve into on-coming traffic in".

Even though golf tends to be rather dull, for me, the commercials are not the only thing that makes watching worth while. The other reason I enjoy watching golf are for the crazy shots. Some of the shots are just insane and some just do not make sense. This year, one of the golfers drove the ball into a tree and it vanished forever. Now you would think with about a hundred fans and ten video cameras on the ball it would be pretty hard to lose it, but it happened and it was pretty crazy.

Overall I had a good time and I'm sure well do it again next year.

Burgers mmm

Mmm burgers -

So, I was too tired to cook this Saturday night and I had an ear infection, which made coming home from 8 hours of work to make dinner and the resulting mess not so appealing.
Why not take out? The thing is, when I'm not 100 percent, I'm pretty picky in choosing what I eat. If it's not right, it makes me feel worse- so I had to find the right place. I wanted something homemade- ruling out Wendys, McDonalds and everything else. So I drove around and found this place called Joes or Pops - something like that- and I got what I think was the best burger ever. It was good and had everything on it and it was made fresh when I ordered. It's located on 17th Avenue and 27th Street right by the 7/11. What can I say?  It was good  and it made slaving away all day and dealing with a constant crackle in my ear fade away. It's funny how good food can do that. Thoughts ? Does good comfort food  make life just that much better ?

old people

Hanging out with old people-

Now, I spend some of my hang out time with old people. My Nana in Calgary lives down the street and she’s pretty old at 92. My other nanny lives in New Brunswick and she's even older at 98. When I spend time with them, all I can think about is how the world has changed for the better and the worse too. For instance, I was talking about how hard it was to memorize this poem for one of my classes, and my Calgary nana, in between bites of her  dinner, recited it perfectly by memory.  It shows how different both education and expectations have changed over the last 75ish years. But then they had to grow up without TV, ipods, dvds and cell phones. What are your thoughts on old people and how they look at life?

Trying to write blogs with an ear infection

Trying to write blogs with an ear infection-

Now, I don’t ever remember having an ear infection as a  kid but I have one now. It wasn't hurting, it was more the annoying crackle and the annoying feeling when I yawned that bothered me so much that I went to the walk in clinic to get it checked out. It's really never a good sign when a doctor says: “Oh, wow, that’s bad.” I didn't really think it could be that bad- there is usually searing pain and then you know there is an infection. It  became apparent that it was bad when the doctor said she wanted me to take antibiotics for twice as long and come back to get it checked out after that. According to Google and e-Medical Online, ear infection can be caused by a lot of things such as a cold that has spread to the ear or swimmers' ear. They also say that rest, liquids and avoiding scuba diving is key to recovery- so, here I am on Friday night in my pjs hanging out with my pets and blogging about ear infections.

Being a crazy animal lady-

So, yes, I am a crazy animal lady. I like animals. I like talking to them - mostly because they can't talk back; they can only make annoying sounds. For example, my guinea pig, Paulikins, who can only make loud 'meeping' squeals when he wants something or when he's on the floor and has followed you into the kitchen for a snack.  I also happen to have two birds, a fish, a frog and another type of fish thing that cleans the tank. I know my landlord loves me and my neighbours love it even more.  Now you must think all I do is hang out with my animals all day and be a hermit - and you're pretty much right.  Somehow, I don’t think there is anything wrong with that. People nowadays just aren't what they use to be.  What can I  say? I like the everlasting and unquestioning love and devotion animals give. I always cry when I read that PETA is having to defend animals or the ASPCA advertises dogs or cats looking for a home. Those big, sad eyes just look straight at me and I want to hug them.
