For Your Pinterest

As a self proclaimed Pinterest addict, I find myself mildly insulted when I casually drop one of my interesting newly pinned discoveries in conversation and the person who I am speaking to is uneducated on the growing and all consuming social phenomenon that is Pinterest. To the best of my knowledge, a few years ago the Pinterest website was almost obsolete and has now grown into a web browsing staple.

Although I am the first to admit I am judgemental about those unaware of such a fabulous website, it was not that long ago that I became a Pinterest member. For those who are unaware, Pinterest is a large collaboration of things that people within the Internet realm can comment on, like, and re-pin to their own personal customizable pin boards. Some examples of pin boards include recipes, crafts, fashion, photography etc. Virtually anything anyone finds interesting can be deemed as pin worthy. Is it obvious how addicting this website can be yet?

What I learned in researching the history of Pinterest is that it is a relatively new website, with the first ideas developing in December of 2009, with a website launch in March of 2010. Initial growth of the website was slow and nine months after the launch the website was operating out of a small apartment with 10 000 users.

Major changes took place when Time magazine listed Pinterest as one of the 50 best websites in August of 2011. Only a few months later, in December of 2011, Pinterest had acquired a position in the top 10 social networking services. In January of 2012 Pinterest broke records, being the fastest website in history breaking 10 million unique visitors.

It is now estimated that Pinterest averages 11 million visits per week. Readers, if you haven't done so already please feel free to join the masses, hop on the bandwagon, and get pinning! It is a decision you will  not regret.
