The Black Keys Concert Review

The Black Keys play a sold out show at the Saddledome May 11, 2012.

Before I get started, I want to say I honestly wasn’t expecting much from this concert. I LOVE the Black Keys and was beyond excited to go to the concert last night, but I was afraid to get my hopes up. Their mainstream success and sold out concert venues seemed all too sudden for the band, and I was afraid of what their egos would do to their stage presence.
That being said, my uncertainties about the performance lasted only a few seconds; they put on one hell of a show. The sold out concert, with opening band The Arctic Monkeys was a concert to remember. The atmosphere and the energy in the ‘dome was intense from the moment the Black Keys stepped onstage and opened with their hit ‘Howlin’ for you’.

The set list pleased both the die-hard fans and new fans alike. The night consisted of a variety of hits from their new album El Camino as well as from their other record giant, Brothers. But the set did not forget to include some (less main-stream) Keys’ classics from Attack and Release, Magic Potion, Rubber Factory and Thickfreakness.
I was surprised and ecstatic that 'Ten Cent Pistol' (my favorite song) was played but the 17 song set seemed to end all too fast. The band finished with their massive hit 'Lonely Boy' (which was a crowd favorite), then thanked the audience and left the stage.

In a wait that seemed like an eternity, the Black Keys returned to the screaming audience to perform a 3 song encore. 'Everlasting Light' began the encore (another of my personal favorites), and was by far one of the best performances of the night. Everlasting light was followed by 'She’s Long Gone' and 'I Got Mine'.  If you were not satisfied with the 17 song performance, the encore definitely blew you away.
My review: 4/5 stars (and only because my seats where terrible)

Hope to see you boys back again soon.
